Well, it seems I need a right front strut (unconfirmed) and I think that leaves me in a bad way (also unconfirmed). Crap.

Wheel has a whole lotta play where it shouldn't. Pointed out by the tire guys when it was up on the lift. Left side, no play. Right side, wibble wobble.

Eva. Means I have to replace the whole damn shock, right?

If you do one, do the other side if not all 4. Could also be your mount.

So yes, the whole shock. That I figured. I'm really hoping it's the mount or something like that. I know I should do both front shocks if I do one, but I dunno how that's going to happen. Also don't know the probability I will get hurt if I don't replace it... also don't know how long I've been driving with a bad strut...

Jack the car up and start looking at all the ball joints and bushings and mounts for the lower control arm before jumping to the conclusion that the strut is bad, unless what they showed you as moving was the strut its self and not just the wheel. There are lots of other components to go through before condemning your strut. Check every ball joint and every mount and every bushing to confirm what component is bad, as just throwing a strut at the car could cause you to be out money and still have the problem.

Conv,
Go raise your hood and press down hard on the strut tower. If you here the popping noise again then it is probably bad. If everytime you push on the strut tower then you know it is bad.
For the mounts, it's how it was on my dad's minivan as well.

He grabbed the shock and was moving it, when the wheel was off. I'm going to have to find a way to look at those things. Definitely can't just throw a shock at it anyway...

I am troubleshooting now, or at least listening to what I can without a jack or ramps. Checking bolts, etc. This might explain some of the noises I get when I go over bumps too fast...

It's more of a creak than a popping, but could be either. It's done this for a long time. Bolts on top are fine. I'm thinking mount or ball joint or something.

Right, then Eva might not have to go to the great racetrack in the sky. Yet.

Ugh. Front strut mount for your car: $32. My car: $151. Cheapest at $114 on Turner. Why must the 1995 M3 be so special!

I dunno, but it's the wrong part. They don't realize the '96-99 part won't fit the '95 (from what I see)
